The building started in 1754 and the works were finished nine year later in 1763. It is the highest Tower in Portugal, with six floor and 76 metres high. It is the ex-libris of Porto.
Baroque art emerged in Portugal in the 17th. and 18th centuries and it is known by its rich and fascinating decoration of which the Tower is a major example.
A 225 step staircase gives way to the narrow balconies of the last floor, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view.
It is the tallest of its kind in the country.
