Tanjung Bungah

Tanjung Bungah is a suburb within the city of George Town. It is situated approximately 6.5km northwest of the city centre, encompassing the coastline between Batu Ferringhi to the west, Tanjung Tokong to the east and verdant hills to the south. Being an affluent suburb, Tanjung Bungah is one of the most favoured areas for expatriates within George Town, due to its seafront location. It is home to two of Penang's top international schools - Dalat and Tenby international schools.

The area had been a laid-back fishing village during the colonial era, save for a handful of bungalows that housed Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) personnel during the Malayan Emergency. Tanjung Bungah began to experience rapid urbanisation in the 1980s, turning it into an upscale suburb of George Town. The suburb was among the places worst-hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Tanjung Bungah Floating Mosque was completed, becoming one of the best-known landmarks of Tanjung Bungah.
