  • What is the story behind the name?
  • The island is named after a British ship used on the Great Lakes during the War of 1812. Originally the island was an Indian Reserve of the Mississauga's, but was sold by the Canadian Government to an American in the late 1800's or early 1900's. The island's current owner is Canadian. I do not know if the Canadian Gov't sale to the American was part of the Canadian Government's land purchase from the Mississauga in the 1800's, nor do I know if it was included in any equilization payment the Canadian Gov't paid to the Mississauga in the 21st century totalling $145 million for underpayment of land back in the 1800's.
