The site is the home of the following ExxonMobil research organizations:

ExxonMobil Corporate Strategic Research (CSR)
ExxonMobil Process Research Laboratories (EMPR)
ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. (EMBSI)

The site was originally built by Exxon in the mid-1980s to hold around 1,000 scientists and engineers, but Exxon's 1986 downsizing quickly left the site with excess office and laboratory space. Throughout the 1990s, much of the space was leased to other companies, including Merck and Lonza. The merger with Mobil brought consolidation and the facility began to refill with company employees. The move of EMPR from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2006 brought the site back toward the staffing originally envisioned for it.
