The new Fiterman Hall is a 218-foot, 15-story university building designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, and completed in 2012.

The old Fiterman Hall, a 14-story structure built in 1959 located at 30 West Broadway between Barclay and Park Place, was damaged in the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center (WTC) when falling debris from 7 World Trade Center left it with significant damage in its south façade. The 14-story building, constructed as an office building in the 1950s, had served as an extension of the 199 Chambers Street campus of the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) since 1993.

From 2002 though 2004 CUNY and DASNY negotiated insurance claims on Fiterman Hall. After sufficient funding was in place to determine the scope of the project, the project team selected the architectural firm of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners to both lead the development of the building’s hazardous waste cleanup and demolition procedures as well as design the new building.

During the summer and fall of 2005, the Fiterman project proceeded along two tracks: planning for the decontamination and deconstruction of the original building (Phase 1) and designing the new building to replace it (Phase 2). The new facility provides space for classrooms, computer labs, offices, assembly and meeting rooms, and other spaces to accommodate college programs and community functions. In the summer of 2006, Hunter Roberts Construction Group was selected as the CM to over see the construction of the new Fiterman Hall.

The building is clad in variegated red brick, with large square banks of grey smoked-glass windows. A large portion cantilevers over the ground floor on the south side. In addition, the northwest corner is cut away at an angle at the ground floor, with the upper floors supported by a large column.
