Built between 1793 and 1835, this bridge spans the El Tajo gorge separating the old Moorish town in Ronda from the new town. The gorge itself is over 100m deep at the bridge. During the Spanish civil war prisoners from the republican side were are believed to have been thrown to their deaths over the side. The interior of the bridge used to contain a prison, but is now a museum.
