  • Teremok is a Russian idiom that roughly means "cozy little house". It comes from an old and very short Russian children's fairy tale about forest animals that find a tiny house in the woods that is too small for all of them, and yet they manage to coexist there communally. For such a gigantic country, I will never understand why Russians value collectivism so much...even before the USSR.
  • The answer in right in the question. For all the times Russia was cold, huge, full of forests and wild beasts with insolent and hostile tribes on the borders. The only way to survive and develop here is to get together and build something bigger & stronger that you yourself: the community, the village, the town, the State.
