This shrine, a branch of Sumiyoshi Shrine in Osaka, is dedicated to the guardian god for the area encompassing Tsukudajima and Tsukishima. In addition to its annual festival, the shrine also holds a triennial grand festival. At this grand festival, a type of festival music called Tsukuda Hayashi, which is ranked among the best three examples of Edo festival music, is played while people carrying a huge portable shrine weighing nearly 400 kg, a long flag and two lion head representations jostle each other, creating great excitement throughout the area.
