This use to be a city pool at one time. The pool was called the A Pool. I'm guessing A ment Albuquerque Pool. The swimming pool was the shape of a big A. I remember I went swimming here when I was about 3 and 4 years old. My dad used to live down the block from here around 30 years ago and he said the neighbors kids use to come swimming here all the time in the summer. This pool closed down and got covered up about 23 years ago.

  • Yes, your guess is right. It was owned by a man named Rod but can't remember last name. What a little culture this place was. The place was packed with kids. The lifeguards were responsible for cleaning the whole pool, so they would try to catch kids doing bad things (like doing splash dives) and then make them do their work. And the funny thing is, we were such dumbasses we would do it!! Sheesh. I spent 6 hours a day, every summer day, there from June to end of August from like 1965 to 1970 at that place, starving my ass off because we were too dumb to bring food. It was a quarter to buy a hot dog, but a quarter was like a week's allowance. So, we stayed hungry and got skinny as all hell (not like these fat freakin' kids you see today, whose mother would never send them to the pool without enough money to stuff their little diddie-coombs' face with hot dogs, Big Hunks, and even (oh my!) Oh Henry! bars).
  • The owners name was Rod Jensen and his wife was Pat (who started Beach Bee Bikini) then he got divorced and married Pilar. He just passed away her in La Joll,a California. I was one of those lifeguards who made kids pick up trash or clean the tiles on the side of the pool. I was under duress. We has a code over the PA system. The Sandia foorball coahes used to bring the PE classes over. If the life guards loft could talk...you have no idea. What memories!!!Ron and Scotty were swim team coaches. There was Bobby Dudley, Rob and Dave Wall, Patti Steuber, Jennifer Sutton, Mark Mahorick, Ellwell, Ben Wine. The Clifford Boys, Ned Chappell et al.
  • I swam there 1980 until it closed. Loved Andy Bischell big time when I was a seriously crushed-out preteen.
