Turret Gateway (Leicester)

United Kingdom / England / Leicester

The Turret Gateway, which is also known as ‘Rupert's Gate’, was built in 1422-23, but has been in ruins since 1832 when it was almost destroyed by a mob during an election riot. This was the main gateway from The Newarke into the castle and the groves of the erstwhile portcullis can still be seen.

Southern entrance to what was the inner bailey of Leicester Castle.
