In the annals of wild places not yet subordinated to the county parks, "The Cliffs" (as it's locally known) stands out in locals' memories of Springfield and its environs. Locals used to swim at this bend in Accotink Creek before the overpass for the Fairfax Bypass was built, back when Hooes Road went over a wooden bridge that clattered every time a car passed. There is still a path here (an unofficial extension of the path--now paved--along Accotink Creek) and judging by the graffiti on the overpass, it still serves as a hang-out.
