The largest department store on the continent of Europe. Built between 1905 and 1907, the store was sold to Hermann Tietz in 1927. Hertie was eventually bought by Karstadt 1994. KaDeWe remains the most luxurious store in Berlin.

The store was badly damaged in World War II, bombed out and then further devastated when a British bomber crashed into the building. It was restored after the war and intentionally made into an example of West German prosperity during the Cold War.

Renowned for its food halls on the sixth floor.
