Named and bounded by Minister for Survey and Valuation, Urban and Regional Affairs 11 August 1975. The English origin of the name Alderley is possibly "Aldred's leah", where leah indicates a wood or copse. Boundary altered by the Minister for Natural Resources 4 February 2000. Boundaries amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Minister Assisting the Premier on Water, 1 September 2006.
