Established in 1977, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has since then been engaged primarily in constructing and selling housing to low and middle income groups in urban and semi-urban areas. In Bombay it has constructed about 30,000 housing units and met 10-20% of the city's annual housing needs. Its mass housing projects have been undertaken in Majaswadi, Chandivali, Oshiwara and Powai.
