Hakimpur Upazila (Dinajpur district) with an area of 99.92 sq km, is bounded by Nawabganj (Dinajpur) and Birampur upazilas on the north, Panchbibi upazila on the south, Ghoraghat upazila on the east, West bengal of India and Birampur upazila on the west. Main river is little jamuna and Tulsi Ganga.

Hakimpur town is located at 25.2777026N 89.0107583E. Hakimpur (Town) consists of 9 wards and 14 mahallas with an area of 4.3 sq km. The town has a population of 25680; male 52.82%, female 47.18%. The density of population is 5972 per sq km. The literacy rate among the town people is 41.9%. The town has two dakbungalows.

Hakimpur thana was established in 1950 and was turned into an upazila in 1984. The upazila consists of 4 union parishads, 69 mouzas and 91 villages.

As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 66875; male 51.77% and female 48.23%; Muslim 91.56%, Hindu 6.27%, Christian 1.04% and others 2.13%.

Cottage industries Bidi, potteries, goldsmith, blacksmith and tailoring.

Hili is a Land Port bordering West Bengal of India. Food grains, spices, sugar, boulders etc. are principle imports, while hand molasses and soft drinks etc. are exported. Currently, trade is handled with West Bengal. Around 30,000 passengers pass through this port between Bangladesh and India. New land of 10 acres have been acquired 700 meters away from the border in Dharhanda mouza.

NGO activities Operationally important NGOs are brac, ITCL, CARE, asa, grameen bank, thengamara mahila sabuj sangha, and Samaj Unnayan Karma Sangstha.
