statue, monument, historic landmark
Statue of Leifur Heppni Eiríksson (Lucky Leif), son of Erik the Red.
Leifur is said to have discovered America around the year 1000. His group had some trouble with the natives and eventually lost America again.
This status was a gift to the Icelandic people from the United States of America and carries a nice plaque to that effect, with only minor typographic erros.
Leifur has a very good view down Skólavörðustígur towards the very centre of town.
