The Garden Tomb (Jerusalem)

Israel / Jerusalem / Jerusalem
tomb(s), calvary, place of worship, tourist attraction

The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem is considered by some to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus; the same narrative points to a nearby rocky hilltop as the place of the crucifixion. The rock-hewn tomb chamber, undeniably ancient in its origins, was discovered in 1860. The Garden Tomb Association, a non-profit registered in the UK, acquired the property in the 1890s and still manage it today.

John 19:41 -- "In the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand."

  • Actually, this place is not the Tomb of Christ. The first one to claim it was general Gordon in 1883. In the same article, he claimed that the Garden of Eden was the Seychelles Island. If the place could fit to some elements read in the Gospel. The Holy Sepulchre Church in the Old City was at the time of Christ outside the city of Jerusalem and the archeological studies proved that it likely could be the real place of Jesus' Crucifixion and Burial. The Gordon Tomb dates of the 2nd century AD.
