Ala Wai Canal

The Ala Wai Canal is a beautiful waterway at the western entrance to Waikiki. Constructed in 1922, the canal drains up to 150 inches of rainwater that falls in the mountains above Waikiki each year. Prior to the completion of the canal, southeastern coast of O'ahu was a swampland of fish and duck ponds.
