The second university in York. The First being York University. York St Johns began as a teaching college then became a sister college of the university of Leeds and in 2007 gained university status. Its former names were: York Saint Johns, University College of Ripon and York Saint John, University College of York Saint John, York Saint Johns College and now York Saint Johns University.
