Coast Guard Island serves as the administrative headquarters for the United States Coast Guard's 11th District and the Headquarters for Maintenance & Logistics Command Pacific, which includes the Coast Guard's 14th and 17th Districts in Hawaii and Alaska.

In addition to the numerous tenant commands stationed at Coast Guard Island, the base is also the homeport for two National Security Cutters and four High Endurance Cutters.
