Anoka Technical College (Anoka, MN)Part of the Minnesota State Colleges and University System. It lacks or comes in last in most educational ratings. Barely receiving accreditation in 2004 it again faced closure from the State of MN. Built in the 1940's as a factory that produced material for the war effort it's had an ongoing and continuous struggle to stay open. Other than demolishing a good portion of the building in the early 2000's it's had very little quality up keep since, mostly paint and superficial appearances. Educational programs come and go almost on a yearly basis, which leads to problems recruiting & retaining quality instructors and staff as compared to other institutions in the MNSCU System. The State of MN and Anoka-Hennepin School Dist approved the building of an attached High School(STEP Building)that hoped to funnel students into the Technical College for its revival. Although the STEP building has been open for several years such efforts have yet to produce and large impact either positive or negative.
With all it's faults locals seem to defend it to no end. A great source of pride for them. Category: school
