Hooghly River Bridge Commisioners abreviated as HRBC ,the autonomous body now under Transport Department , Govt of West Bengal has built up the Vidyasagar Setu, 1st Cable stayed bridge in India over the River Ganges(Bhagirathi)connecting twin districts Howrah and Metropolitan City Kokata(Mahanagar. After completion of this engineering marvel HRBC has completed the Calcutta Transport Infrastructure Development Projects under JBIC loan to build up Flyovers along AJC Bose Rd , at Park St.junction, Gariahat junction and Lock gate flyover.
The dilapidated tram tracks which made the common carriage ways most vulnerable for traffic movement , not to speak of speed are being renewed along with improvement of carriageway by concretisation.About 17 Km double tracks are almost renewed. The speed on M.G.Road, Rabindra sarani, Bidhan Sarani, Lenin Sarani, RashBehari Avenue have remarkably improved providing new life to heritage tramways. That apart a lot of new projects are being executed by HRBC which has earned confidence of the Government by producing time bound works.Some of important current projects include: (1)Beck bagar Flyover,(2) NagerBazar Flyover,(3)2 Flyovers on MAR-1 at Rajarhat, (4) 6-lane Road at Rajarhat,(5) Garment Park Complex at Howrah,(6) Renewal of Tram Tracks on Ashutosh Mulherjee Rd,APC Rd at Khanna, RG Kar Rd, etc
