Boulder of the Rock (site)

For decades this 20,000 pound chunk of granite served as a signpost pointing the way up to Ayers Kaserne. Eventually the First Armored Division got their own painted chunk of granite down at Ray Barracks in Friedberg, in the middle of the post. The 1AD version in Friedberg looked very similar to this one, which has caused some confusion and mis-captioned pictures, but this stone up at The Rock was the original.
Several years after the departure of the last American troops, this boulder was found dumped in the middle of the Ayers Kaserne parade ground.
