this area was established as orange farms owned by a famous family in Gaza called "Shasha'a family", this family lived in Gaza for more than 650 years and decends from Prophit Mohamad Family, that is why they are called " Al Ashraf" meaning the refined family. now only small portion of this area is still owned by family members and this area is very near to Israel, so it is always targeted by Israeli forces during war times.
