Second World War 1939-1945, cliff, interesting place, historic site
During the American liberation of Saipan from the Japanese in late 1944, many Japanese civilians took their own lives by jumping from these cliffs. The Janpanese military used propaganda to make the residents believe that the US soldiers were barbaric monsters and that that suicide was the only noble way to escape.
