garden, estate (manor / mansion land), NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, historic landmark, historical building, 1920s construction
"Greenacres" was designed c. 1926 by Sumner Spaulding in the Italian Renaissance-Mediterranean Revival style on 15 acres of land for silent film star Harold Lloyd. The residence--and its landscaping by A.E. Hanson--was intended to evoke Villa Palmieri above Florence, Italy. Regarded as the most impressive movie star estate ever created, "Greenacres" was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is currently owned by billionaire Ronald Burkle; investor, developer, Democratic Party fundraiser.
