Gothic Avenue formed a line in the sand for high rise apartment developers during the 1960s. After progressively acquiring and demolishing houses ("blockbusting") from Keele Street west to Gothic Avenue along the new subway line, developers were halted at Gothic Avenue by controversy over the development practices used by the City of Toronto. David Miller, Mayor of Toronto 2003-2010, was a Gothic Avenue resident.
