History

New Covenant Church of The Golden Triangle was established in 1975 as New Covenant Fellowship, under the pastoral oversight of Bill Haring. Pastor Haring was sent from Bay View Heights Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, which was experiencing great revival under the leadership of Charles Simpson. The ministry of Pastor Simpson developed into building leaders and commissioning them to serve many churches and prayer groups across the world. A unique group of churches and pastors emerged without any formal structure, yet tied closely by friendship and a common history and mission. New Covenant maintains and values these relationships today.

In 1984, Pastor Haring returned to ministry in Mexico where he had a fourteen-year investment in churches and leaders. Bill Murphy, who had grown up in New Covenant and was mentored by Pastor Haring, was chosen as Pastor, assisted by Michael McCarty. These two young men gave direction and leadership for the next season, purchasing our present 25 acres and overseeing the construction or our building. Pastor McCarty began Covenant Family Church in McComb, Mississippi in 1992 with four other families from New Covenant.

Pastor Jerry Linhares was invited to join Pastor Bill as an associate minister in 1993, beginning as a part-time staff member and becoming a full-time in 1998. Pastor Jerry brings a rich heritage and seminary training from the Catholic tradition, as well as experience in pastoring non-denominational Charismatic churches in Texas and Louisiana. Pastor Bill, who grew up in Starkville attributes his training and equipping to his early years in the Baptist Church and the close mentoring relationship for 10 years with Pastor Haring. Working together now for the past 10 years, Pastor Bill and Pastor Jerry look forward to serving the vision and people of New Covenant and to building new leaders and ministries that continue the rich heritage of relational and practical discipleship that has characterized New Covenant Church for twenty-five years.
