The Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, Limited was an iron works or heavy industrial factory complex based at the junction of Bow Creek and the River Thames.
The HMS Warrior (now at Portsmouth) was built here as was the iron casing used to float Cleopatra's needle to London from Egypt. It was the site of the HMS Albion disaster on 21 June 1898 when 34 souls lost their lives when a wooden bridge collapsed due to a large wave created by the launching of the ship. There is a memorial to the victims in East London Cemetery.
