Archaeological Site Temples of Selinunt

Selinunte (Greek: Σελινοῦς; Latin: Selinus) is an ancient Greek archaeological site situated on the south coast of Sicily between the valleys of the rivers Belice and Modione in the province of Trapani.
The archaeological site contains five temples centered on an acropolis. Of the five temples, only temple E, the so-called "Temple of Hera" has been re-erected.

  • The archeological site is divided into four main areas. The Eastern-hill, the Acropolis, the site of the ancient city and the Necropolis. Appart from the five temples in the Acropolis (Temples: A, B, C, D, O), there are three more temples (E, F, G) on the eastern-hill and the Temple of Demeter in the Necropolis. The ruins of a 10th Temple (Temple Y) were discovered but where exactly it was standing is still unknown.
  • Selinunte had also two ports, one commercial and one military, with the Acropolis standing between the two harbours.
