The city's oldest school and college, located at this area. The school was started in 1905 by Venkateshwara Iyer. Later , in 1911 a royal teachers training college was also started which works in conjunction with the school. The high school and training college were inaugurated by P.Rajagopalachari, the then Diwan(Chief Minister) of Travancore. During the early days, the school prospered under the able leadership of an eminent English educationalist, Dr.G.F.Clarke who was also the first principal of the training college. Sai Badarayanachar was the first head master of the school.

The school today: The school has grown in leaps and bounds from its humble, yet strong beginnings. Today, the school boasts of over 4500 students from classes from one to twelve (popularly known as +2) who are being educated by a teaching staff of over 150. The school has multiple buildings to house the students - From the imperialistic main building, to the newly created modern PTA Building. The school seats around 500 students every year for the SSLC and Higher Secondary Exams with extremely good results.

I was passed out during 1987 (SSC)and now after 17 years service in the Indian Army (1991-2008)now since 2010 I am working in the Hon'ble Armed Forces Tribunal (Regional Bench)Guwahati. I may be the only lucky person, who got a prestigious chance to be the student of Model School while Shri Achari Sir was the Headmaster, the then maths teacher of my father and my elder brother during his service with SMV HS Trivandrum.

A memorable span of my childhood was spent as a primary student in this school, from 1961 to 1966. During this period I had the good fortune to visit the head master's room (the illustrious Mr. Kuttan Pillai Sir (aka Kaduva Kuttan Pillai) and know the taste of his cane for breaking the assembly line. He happened to be a friend of my father, but that did not affect his sense of justice and discipline. This happened when i was 8 yrs old, studying in 3rd std. English medium Upper Primary class. Never forgot the lesson learned that day. Never questioned discipline and the chain of command since.
