Faisalabad - City (Faisalabad)Third largest city located at NE Pakistan, in a cotton- and wheat-growing area. Because of it's richness in textile industry Lyallpur is called as Manchester of Pakistan. It is an important transportation and commercial center, especially for grains, cloth, and ghee (clarified butter). Manufactures include textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemical fertilizer, textile machinery, agricultural machinery, hosiery, flour, sugar, vegetable oil, and soap. The city was founded by Sir James Lyall c.1895 and named in his honor. Agricultural University, medical college, textile engineering college, and several colleges affiliated with the University of Punjab, and numerous experimental farms and cattle-breeding stations are in Lyallpur. In 1979 Lyallpur was ironically changed to Faisalabad as a tribute to the close association of late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia with Pakistani nation.
A magnificent Clock Tower is located in the heart of the city, the focal point of eight commercial bazars. Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_Tower,_Faisalabad Category: tower city clock clocktower
