The Canada Life Building houses what is called Canada's Most Original Official Public WeatherVane. The building opened in 1931 and the weather beacon on the tower was installed in 1951.
The crown is illuminated White to indicate snow, green to indicate fair weather or red to indicate rain. The lights on the tower flash in sequence to show: slowly rising temperature; fast rising temperature; steady; or slow/fast falling temperatures. So watchers could quickly and easily get "the Latest at a Glance."
In 2005, a second 16-storey building was added to the west and connected via a skywalk.
