Lake Léman (Lake Geneva)

France / Rhone-Alpes / Marin /

The real name of this lake is "Léman". It is known in foreign countries and in Geneva as "Lake Geneva", because this city lies at the west end of the lake.

The name "Lac Léman" is pleonastic because "Léman" means "grand lac" (big lake)

Visitors should know that most people living around this lake live outside Geneva and are deeply offended when the Léman is called Geneva (of course, except in Geneva)!
