Opened in 1943 as The Statler Hotel, designed by Hollabird & Root with A.R. Clas as associate architect. It was bought, along with the rest of the Statler chain, by Conrad Hilton in 1954. Renamed the Statler Hilton in 1958 and finally the Capital Hilton in 1977.

The film "Born Yesterday", with Judy Holliday and William Holden, is set almost entirely in the hotel, and was filmed in part here.
