During Soviet time, this was a Soviet military helicopter base. The long runway was designed for military jets that were lading here once in a while. After the breakup of USSR, the squadron was moved to Saransk, RU, and eventually disformed. The airfield was since then used for parachute jumps and small cargo flights.
