Place de la Bastille is a public square in Paris, France. The square and its surrounding areas are normally called simply Bastille.
It is named after the Bastille Saint-Antoine, the French prison which once stood there; it was stormed on 14 July 1789 during the French Revolution.

Today, it is home to the Opéra Bastille, a modern opera house.
It is served by the Paris Métro lines 1, 5 and 8.
Bastille is still a symbolic place for social protest manifestation.
