The tree was brought here more than 100 years ago from Australia by Anaheim’s first nurseryman, Timothy Carroll, and planted by the Horstmann family prior to 1876. The tree also inspired Walt Disney's Swiss Family Robinson treehouse, now the Tarzan Treehouse. Walt gave the owner of the tree a lifetime pass to Disneyland - before it even opened.
