Settled in 1831. In 1943 the U.S. Office of War Information selected Alexandria as the subject of “Small Town U.S.A.”, a 36 page magazine depicting life in a typical American town during the war. Filled with information and pictures of local residents and servicemen, the pamphlet was distributed to all of the united nations, and it became Alexandria’s “official” slogan. It is still used today.
