Suncor’s Upgrading operations process bitumen into higher-value synthetic crude oil and diesel fuel using two upgraders at its oil sands site in Fort McMurray. A third upgrader, jointly owned with Total E&P Canada, is under construction. Suncor also operates upgrading assets at its Edmonton refinery.

This third upgrader, known as Voyageur, will add 200,000 barrels per day of upgraded product capacity by 2016 including premium synthetic crude oil, ultra low sulphur diesel and low sulphur diluent. The bitumen will come from the nearby Voyageur South and Fort Hills oil sands mines, both under construction. At this moment the project is stopped.
