The Indian School of Business (ISB) located in Hyderabad, India, is an international Business School providing postgraduate programmes in Management (Master of Business Administration - MBA), post doctoral programmes, as well as executive education programmes for business executives. It was founded on December 20, 1999 by a group of Fortune 500 entrepreneurs in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh's state government.
ISB plans a big harvest
This placement season, the Indian School of Business (ISB) appears set to do an encore. Though the five-year-old B-school will officially release its performance sheet for the 418-strong class of 2007 a few weeks from now, unofficial channels say that this year too, salaries have breached the magical Rs 1-crore mark.
Over 190 companies have registered for the placement process at ISB and some of the Day Zero companies include Mckinsey, BCG, AT Kearney, Citigroup, Sun Group and Kotak while Tesco and Bharti-Walmart, too, camped at the Hyderabad B-school.
There is a strong indication that at least two women candidates have managed to get those lucrative salaries for global positions for the second year running. Again, last year's crorepati maker Tishman Speyer, the real estate consulting firm, appears to be topping the chart offering "dramatic salaries" (read over Rs 1 crore) including an offer to a woman candidate for a position in New York, it is understood.
Other lucrative offers have come from companies like Boston Consulting Group, BP-DCT, Citibank and PwC. Last year, ISB had secured itself a distinct place in India's B-school universe with four grads, including two women, getting packages of over Rs 1 crore.
While there is no official communication forthcoming, there is enough information flowing from campus chats, well placed sources and student blogs to draw a fair picture.
All of it suggests that the school is on the roll in terms of global offers that have come for positions in the UK, the US and Australia. Sources said, there were trends indicating significant shifts in careers, industries and locations. Predictably, consulting offers were the most lucrative.

Sources say, the foreign currency salaries equivalent to Rs 1-crore for people with five to nine years of experience for a global position is really aligned to international salary levels. Also, students are increasingly looking at job roles, family considerations and saving potential while opting for these.
It is highly likely that some students may actually opt for an Indian role that is more challenging, as against an international assignment, as has happened in some of the IIMs. Of course, while all ISB students have work experience tucked under their belts, other B-schools also deal with freshers.
Another interesting trend this year could be the tilt towards entrepreneurial roles. It is understood that NIIT has made offers to 11 entrepreneurship teams comprising about four people each.
