GEÇİTKÖY / PANAGRA LAKE

The Geçtköy / Panagra area deserves and intensive exploration just past the village lies a reservoir on the left, while on the right is an isolated valley where the endemic Tulipa cypria grows. It is a wonderful wild tulip with its dark red colour. Otherwise this wonderful species which is part of the rich and intensive flora of this area faces a real danger of extinction. Ferulago cypria, Allium willeanum are endemics growing around the wetland of Panagra. It is also an important nesting, breeding, and over-flight area, which is important to domestic birds and migratory birds. Panagra is an important wetland area, given that wetlands are fairly limited in Cyprus due to lack of sufficient precipitation.
