Sint-Truiden (French: Saint-Trond, Limburgish: Sintruin) is a municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg.
The oldest residential area was Zerkingen, which already appeared in writings in the 8th century as: Sarchinium. After 1100, the name Sint-Truiden came into use, after Sint-Trudo, founder of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden.
Sint-Truiden is located in Haspengouw, a region that spreads over the Belgian provinces of Limburg, Liège, Namur, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant. This region is characterized by a rolling landscape of very fertile lands used for agriculture and livestock farming. Sint-Truiden is located in the northern part of Haspengouw, in the humid part of the region, with rich loam soil, which is very suitable for fruit growing. The slightly undulating relief rises to a maximum height of 115 m.
In addition to the city center, the merged municipality consists of 14 sub-municipalities: The hamlet of Kortenbos has also been part of the city of Sint-Truiden since 1977, when it was separated from Kozen. In Sint-Truiden itself there are also the hamlets of Bevingen and Melveren, which have not yet become part of the city center. Schurhoven, Guvelingen and Zerkingen are integrated into the city centre.
