The building was originally the city's House of Detention. The cells were converted in 150 craft shops and the House of Culture has become the biggest center of culture and art throughout the state of Pernambuco. There you will find pieces in clay, ceramics, leather or wood ranging from dolls, chess and checkers, bumba-meu-boi, maracatu up to bags, sandals, hats and embroidery.
