8-story Beaux-Arts hotel completed in 1902 as a 7-story building. Designed by G A Schellenger, it has two main wings divided by a central light well, above a 2-story base. Now the Amsterdam Court Hotel, it was formerly the transient Hotel Mansfield Hall. A 1992 fire heavily damaged parts of the building, after which it was restored and converted to a conventional hotel with a new 8th floor.
The base is faced in white-painted limestone with a central entrance framed by banded piers. The glass double-doors are topped by a small, black metal canopy. At the top of the piers are paired console brackets supporting a rounded pediment; the cornice along the base of the pediment extends out to both ends of the building, and has a patterned underside. The pediment is filled by a cartouche flanked by foliate carvings. There are two bays on either side of the entrance, with modern black metal-and-glass storefronts separated from each other by wall sections with small, glazed orange tiles; these also run across the tops of the inner storefronts. Above the outer storefront, the bays (including the cornice) bow slightly outward. This projecting, curved bay continues up through the 7th floor.
The 2nd floor is clad in orange brick with thin limestone banding. The light court begins above the central pediment, with angled walls at the front, and a wrought-iron, basket-style balcony landing above the pediment; a short metal stairway leads down to a smaller wrought-iron landing fronting the bay to the west. The bays of either side of the light court have double-windows, and the curved end bays have three single-windows. All the windows on the 2nd floor have angled, beige awnings, and are topped by splayed stone lintels with ornate scrolled keystones flanked by swags. A stone band course with an egg-and-dart molding caps the base.
The wings at the upper floors have the same window organization as the 2nd floor, but with full stone surrounds, including rounded pediments above the double-windows and middle windows of the curved end bays at the 3rd-5th floors. The angled front wall of the light court has single-windows at each floor, also with full stone surrounds. The rear wall of the light well is fronted by a fire escape. The 6th floor is topped by a modillioned band course that turns the corner and runs along the side walls of the light well. The 7th floor also has stone surrounds, but is topped by a simple brick parapet. The newer 8th floor has two bays of triple-windows at both wings.
The west elevation is clad in brown brick and tan stucco. The only windows are in the narrow light well at the middle. The hotel contains 350 guest rooms. The ground floor is occupied by Natsumi restaurant.
