Site of Oxford Castle (Oxford)

Significant royal stronghold with some remains dating back to the 11th century. A large area of the city was cleared to make way for this symbol of Norman domination. The motte and one tower still stand. Part of the site became Oxford Prison and is shown undergoing conversion into a hotel.
