Kanhangad is famous for Nityananda ashram, Anandashram, Guruvanam, Agricultural University, Tookkupalam at Padannekkad, Theerthakulam [big pond] also at Padannekkad, Hosdurg fort large number of temples, mosques, churches and auditoriums.
The city is famous for Nehru Arts and Science College which produced several eminent social worker cum teachers to the entire Kerala.

It is also famous for the historic Nair soldiers and their families known as Echikkanam, Koroth, Karicherry, Kodoth, Melathe, Nangachoor etc. It is a beautiful city with Bekal fort guarding it from sea which makes a beautiful destination to spend the evening. also it is a city blessed with Anandashram and Nithyanandashram which is a core point of meditation and self relaxation and peace. its a costal area with middle class people where from Coorg (Kodagu) is very near by and also Ranipuram; which are beautiful places to spend the leasure.

  • A charming town ideally situated on the banks of Chandragiri River, Kasargod is the present headquarters of Kasargod District. The meeting point of several languages and culture, the people in this region speak eight languages. Handloom industry and fishing industry flourish in this place. Kasargod is also famous for its saree which is compared with Kanchipuram saree. The 300 year old Bekal Fort, located 16 km south of the town, is one of the major attractions. Pallikere Beach, Bekal Hole Aqua Park, Malik Deenar Mosque, Kappil Beach, a much favoured backwater resort Valiyaparamba, Dolors Church, Chandragiri, Malik Deenar Mosque and Malikarjuna Temple are other important tourist spots.   • Kanhangad is a congested town and it has been like this for the last four decades I know. To make the matters worse, millions of mosquitoes have now settled down in Kanhangad town and surrounding areas. I really had a nice experience of listening the group songs of the mosquitoes of the town when I had to stay in a hospital for a couple of nights, whilst my father was admitted. Anybody visiting our beautiful towns should be prepared for all types of diseases. Heaps of garbages, people spitting whereever they want like spontanoeous fountains. I love my beautiful town!!
