BNSF's primary Tacoma rail facility, this was originally the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railway linking St. Paul, MN and the Puget Sound. The NP merged with the Great Northern; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; and Spokane, Portland & Seattle railways to form the Burlington Northern in 1970, which in turn merged with the Santa Fe to form the BNSF in 1996.
