When you walk into the Ritz Condominium today, you leave the busy city and enter into a different world. The grand atmosphere of the well placed lobby is symbolic to the old Ritz Carlton Hotel of years past. This magnificent hotel, designed by New York architects Warren & Wetmore, was built by theThompson-Starrett Company. The hotel opened with a gala party on June 24, 1921. Prominent figures were marveled by the six million dollar price tag! In the late 70s, AP Orleans, a PA builder, converted the Ritz Carlton Hotel into an apartment hotel. In 1980, Ritz Carlton Associates purchased the Ritz Carlton Hotel and converted the building into condominiums. During that conversion, the townhouses and mezzanine units were added. Our present building manager, Brian Smith, worked for the Ritz Carlton Associates during the 1980 conversion period, serving as their Project Manager. The Ritz Carlton Hotel Group objected to the use of the name Ritz Carlton Condominium and it was changed to the Ritz Condominium. It officially became a condominium in 1982. Today the Ritz Condominium stands as a Historic ocean front building, in elegant surroundings after an extensive renovation program to restore the building to it's former grandeur.
