The Valley as it is informally known, is a housing scheme to the North of Maryhill, mostly made up of Pre, Post & Inter War tenements, although very few remain. Sadly, the area had a reputation for Vandalism, Drugs & Violence which outweighs the fact that The Valley, or 'Gairbraid' is the Heart of Old Maryhill.
To the Uppermost part of The Valley, the Single standing, Collina St High rise, is the main focus of BBC Scotland's 'Still Game' the Building is featured frequently in the show as the home of the main characters. Although the Scheme is referred to as the fictional 'Craiglang' it is mostly filmed in The Valley or surrounding areas of Maryhill.
The old baths and steamie have been given a massive upgrade ,the outer shell of the building remains but the old pool is now a five-a-side court and a new pool has been built facing on to Maryhill road, there is also a new fitness suite, all of which hopefully opens in April of 2010, the new entrance is through the old fire station doors in Gairbraid Avenue.
Work has now started on the Burgh Halls which is having quite a few million pounds on upgrading that too.

The tenements shown have now been demolished and the Collina St high flats are scheduled for demolition by 2015.

  • This is the valley. The 'Botany' (or the Butney as anyone who lives there would call it) is the now demolished tenements which were on the other side of the canal from the Valley.
